More than 40,000 people saw Peterborough United lift the Bristol Street Trophy at Wembley on Sunday – and the power of prayer may have just contributed to the success.

Among those backing their appearance at the home of football was Peterborough Cathedral who were at the forefront of preparations and celebrations.

“The Very Revd Chris Dalliston, Dean of Peterborough, is supporting Posh all the way,” said a cathedral spokesperson.

“A special prayer will be said in the hope that they can bring the trophy home!”.

The efficacy of prayer to one side, the cathedral was lit in blue and white throughout the weekend “in the hope that they can bring the trophy home”.

And when ‘mission Wembley’ was successfully accomplished, it was the Cathedral Facebook page among the first to celebrate posting ‘congratulations to Peterborough United on lifting the Bristol Street Motors trophy at Wembley – a very proud day for the city”.

The practical matter of winning, of course, was down to the team with Harrison Burrows the hero as his two goals secured the Bristol Street Trophy for his boyhood club.
