Shoplifter banned from taking rucksack into any shop
A shoplifter has been banned from carrying a rucksack into every shop in Cambridge.
Sonny Matthews, 32, of Thoday Street, Cambridge, received the banning order after pleading guilty to seven counts of shop lifting.
Cambridge Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday (18 October) how Matthews had stolen perfume worth more than £1,200 from John Lewis between 5 and 13 September.
He also stole wine and other goods worth more than £180 from Co Op in Mill Road between 17 September and 3 October.
Matthews was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.
He was also given a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order not to:
1: Enter any Co-Op or Sainsbury’s within the boundaries of the M11, A14 or A11 in Cambridge.
2: Enter John Lewis in Cambridge
3: Not to enter any shop in possession of a rucksack within the boundaries of the M11, A14 or A11 in Cambridge.
PC Adam Price, from the Cambridge Neighbourhood Team, said: “Matthews is a prolific shoplifter who admits stealing to fund his drug habit.
“We hope he will accept the support given to him to get his life back on track. In the meantime, we hope the CBO offers reassurance to businesses in the city.
“Any breaches will be dealt with robustly and Matthews could find himself in prison.”
