A drugs raid was carried out on Thursday night at an industrial unit at Yaxley near Peterborough by Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire police and RCAT (Rural Crimes Action Team). The former gym at Harrier Way on the Eagle Business Park was vacated last September but  police believe the empty unit was illegally used as a drugs factory.

A mezzanine floor is thought to have been added to create an expanded drugs ‘growing’ area.

Although it is not known how many officers took part in the raid, and how many, if any, arrests were made, a small contingent of police cars and police officers were present as CambsNews arrived on the scene.

Police declined to offer access to the unit whilst forensics were called to begin a closer examination of the unit.

And UK Power had workers at the scene to regularise the electricity supply which is thought to have been tampered with illegally to enable the drugs factory to operate.

Police retained a presence at the scene overnight to enable a full investigation to continue today (Friday).

The unit had previously been home to a gym but they moved out and into expanded facilities last September.

Since the launch of this phase at the end of 2017, Barnack says it has been a remarkably successful industrial scheme, due to the quality of the units and environment created.

Rob Facer, chairman, Barnack Estates UK Ltd, said of the estate: “We are delighted to help meet the employment and industrial growth in the area. We have developed nearly 250,000 sq. ft of space constructed in 116 units in this phase which has led to hundreds of new jobs”

Eagle Business Park, which fronts on to Broadway, Yaxley was established in 2010 and the first phases were soon successfully developed by Barnack Estates UK Ltd to occupy its original 25.7-acre site. The second phase has seen a further 18.38 acres of commercial development, a total of 44.08 acres by Barnack Estates UK Ltd.

One of its prime attractions has been the road access to Peterborough’s Parkway road system and the A1(M) Norman Cross junction.

CambsNews has approached Cambridgeshire police for more information about the raid.
