Ely-based Valdi Ltd has won the British Woodworking Federation’s Innovation in Design Award.

The Innovation in Design Award recognises excellence in technical innovation, design, and application in joinery product manufacture.

The BWF Awards celebrate the outstanding skills and talent in the woodworking and joinery sector, and the milestone achievements of the past year.

Valdi Ltd was chosen as the winner in recognition of its innovative design and manufacture of a corner less timber bifold door system that allows the building to open on three sides.

The BWF Award judges recognised the outstanding design and manufacture of this “breath-taking” product.

Helen Hewitt, chief executive of the BWF, said: “There were so many remarkable entries in this year’s Innovation in Design award, but Valdi Ltd showed our judges something they had never seen before, and they were blown away by it.

“The BWF Awards allow us to come together and take pride in all that has been achieved over the past year.

“Our sector has overcome a great deal this year, with supply chain interruption as well as the increase in energy costs and the continued skills shortage.

“The awards are a welcome opportunity to celebrate the hard-earned achievements of the past year and showcase the skill and technical expertise in the sector.

“Every year I’m amazed at the hard work, innovation, and incredible skill of all of our finalists, and I want to congratulate all our winners on their achievements.

“It was fantastic to bring the industry together once again and celebrate the successes our ever-evolving profession.”

Adam Scarff, director at Valdi Ltd, said: “We have offered corner less timber bifold systems for many years.

“But to be able to do this into a green oak framed home and on three sides of the building was something many said could not be achieved.

“We always seek to produce amazing doors and windows for our clients and are very proud of our team and for the recognition from the prestigious BWF awards.”

The prize was presented at a celebratory awards evening held at the Kimpton Fitzroy London Hotel.
