Salvation Army leaders in Wisbech publicly thanked Wisbech Town Council for providing “amazing volunteers” who support a Saturday evening hot food service for the homeless and others in need.

The vote of thanks comes as the Salvation Army announced a series of changes to “strengthen community support”.

A spokesperson said: “The new programme includes the launch of a community lounge which will take place on Tuesday afternoons from 2 May from 2pm to 5pm.

“Open to all, service users will benefit from a new debt advice service while Employment Plus, which supports people into work, will also be available.

“Visitors will also be signposted to other organisations which may be able to help while light food will also be served.”

The spokesperson said the current Tuesday and Thursday evening hot food drop-ins which have not run for over a month will change. The Tuesday session now to be held in the weekly community lounge, and the Thursday programme will be discontinued.

“The Saturday evening food programme will continue with the support of Wisbech Town Council and will move inside the hall rather than being held at the door,” said the spokesperson.

“We’ve opened the doors this evening for our new, updated outreach at Wisbech.

“A big thank you to the amazing volunteers and Wisbech Town Council who make this possible.”
