A drink driver crashed into a house in the Fens causing extensive damage both to his car and to the front door.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Kent, failed a roadside breath test.

“He was taken to hospital as a precaution and later arrested on suspicion of drink driving,” said a Cambridgeshire police spokesperson.

“He has since been released under investigation.”

Police took photos after arriving at the crash scene in Leverington near Wisbech on Friday evening.

The driver joins a growing number arrested in November for drink driving in the county.

In the first 17 days of November, Cambridgeshire police say 33 people have been arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving across the county.

“That’s more than two every single day this month,” said a police spokesperson.

“Remember, we cannot be everywhere, but we could be anywhere!

In September it was revealed that one-in-three drivers breathalysed by Cambridgeshire Police were found to be over the legal alcohol limit.

The rate is the highest across England and Wales.

Latest data showed Cambridgeshire has the highest percentage of positive breath alcohol tests in the country.

The data was released in official Government figures that found that 7,437 breath tests were carried out by motorists in Cambridgeshire.

And of these 2,488 either returned a positive result or the driver refused to complete the test – the equivalent of 33.5 per cent of those tested.
