Police revealed this morning they are not treating as suspicious the deaths of a man and woman, both in their 80s, recovered from a river at March. Both deaths have been reported to the Cambridgeshire coroner.

Police were first called to Chain Bridge, March, at about 8.35am on Saturday (13 July) with reports of concern for the welfare of two people.

On Saturday afternoon the body of a woman in her 80s was recovered from the river.

The body of a man in his 80s was then recovered from the water on Sunday afternoon.

“Police are not treating the deaths as suspicious and have passed to the coroner,” a statement from Cambridgeshire police confirmed today.

An initial post on Saturday by Policing Fenland described it as a “concern for welfare incident on the Twenty Foot river road in March”.

The road was closed between the A141, Hobb’s Lot Bridge and junction of Elm Road for much of Saturday as recovery teams searched the river.

Police are studying reports of a silver Vauxhall Astra that was seen in the area on July 10.
