He may be the returning officer, but not even Paul Medd can force Whittlesey town council to issue polling cards for a by election – a decision which has angered Fenland Green Party.

“The Fenland Green Party has raised concerns regarding Whittlesey Town Council’s recent decision to not issue polling cards for the upcoming by-election scheduled for the 28th of September,” said a spokesperson.

“The party fears that this decision may inadvertently result in many eligible voters being unaware of the important electoral event.”

The Green Party – fielding a candidate in the by election – is “a significant event that will help shape the future of the local community”, they claim.

“However, the decision by Whittlesey Town Council not to provide polling cards has raised questions about the accessibility of the election for residents.

“The Fenland Green Party recognises the importance of a transparent and accessible electoral process, which includes ensuring that voters are well-informed about the election date, location, and procedures.

“Without polling cards, there is a risk that residents may not be aware of where and when they can cast their votes.”

The polling station for the upcoming by-election is confirmed to be at St John’s Ambulance HQ, located at Plough Road, Whittlesey, PE7 1LT.

The Fenland Green Party says it encourages all eligible voters in Whittlesey to take note of this location and date “to ensure their participation in this critical democratic process”.
