The driver of a jack-knifed lorry that caused massive delays on the A605 outside of Peterborough, has been arrested.

Earlier this week police began the hunt for the driver after he fled the scene of the crash on the A605 between Elton and Haddon.

At the time police said the driver had “left the scene, possibly with injuries”.

However, in an updated statement, a police spokesperson said the driver was subsequently found.

“The driver was arrested and has been released under investigation,” said the spokesperson.

“His injuries were very minor.”

The crash happened at around 1pm on April 18 and involved the lorry and a car, the latter crashing into a hedge.

The car driver walked away unscathed.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 1.01pm with reports of a collision on the A605 at Elton where a lorry has jack-knifed, and a car has ended up in a hedge.

“The road has been closed in both directions between the Haddon Services roundabout and Elton.

“Efforts are ongoing to locate the driver of the lorry to see if he requires medical assistance.”

Police appealed for anyone with information to call them on 101.

Highways Agency staff said delays westbound between Peterborough and towards Northamptonshire were considerable and stretched back approximately two miles.
