Sollom pledge to tackle NHS if elected as MP for St Neots and Mid Cambs

Liberal Democrats have, as widely predicted, selected Ian Sollom to contest the newly created constituency of St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire at the next election.

And in some ways, it will be a re-run of 2019 as he will again go head-to-head with Conservative MP Anthony Browne.

Mr Browne is currently MP for South Cambridgeshire and narrowly defeated Mr Sollom in 2019 but with the constituency disappearing under boundary changes, he has been adopted as his party’s candidate for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.

“I’m looking forward to taking on Anthony again, who has disappointed as MP for South Cambridgeshire, even defending Dominic Cummings lockdown excursions while the rest of us obeyed the rules,” said Mr Sollom.

“It’s a huge privilege to be standing for the Lib Dems in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire.

“I’m looking forward to making the case for change at the next General Election.

“Whether you are currently represented by Jonathan Djanogly, Lucy Frazer or Anthony Browne, the Conservatives have all let us down, and after the chaos of recent times they don’t deserve another chance.”

A key election pledge will be the NHS.

“Anyone who has knocked on any doors in the constituency recently will know that people are crying out for better access to GPs,” he said.

“I want to make sure we have the resources so people can see a GP with a week, or within 24 hours in urgent cases.

“I’ve also launched a health survey for residents to tell me their experiences, so I can fight for the other improvements we need”.

About Ian Sollom

Mr Sollom has lived in Cambridgeshire with his wife Bec since 2005 when they both came to Cambridge for postgraduate studies. Completing his PhD in Astrophysics in 2010, he has since worked as a strategy consultant, helping businesses improve their decision making.

Their son Erik arrived in 2012 and they now live in St Neots.

He grew up in Shropshire; he studied physics at Oxford before coming to Cambridge.

Mr Sollom was a district councillor in South Cambridgeshire from 2018-2022.
