Friends and family are rallying round to support a family of five whose home was badly destroyed by fire. Two separate fund-raising campaigns have been launched to help the family following the blaze at their Bramley Road, Wisbech, home.

“My name is Annemarie Paley, and I am fund raising for close friends of mine, Vicky and Richard Hunt with 3 young children 1yrs, 7yrs & 14yrs, who lost their home, 15th June, due to an electrical fault which caused a roaring fire within minutes,” says the first appeal.

“Their home is now uninhabitable due to extensive damage to the entire kitchen, conservatory, and upstairs bathroom along with smoke damage to the rest of the entire house.

“Although safe and lucky to escape the wrath of the fire the flames smashed through the door of the kitchen bellowing smoke throughout the rest of the house, causing windows to smash in its path and incinerating all their furniture along the way.”

Annemarie added: “The trauma they have endured continues as the council were unable to provide emergency accommodation for them as a family and has resulted in the children being split up amongst family members to help restore some form of normality due to the loss of their home.

“With Vicky and Richard being placed in King Lynn hotel and having to travel daily to see their children.

“As I’m sure you can imagine they are all quite emotional and unfortunately do not have contents insurance to claim from.”

She added: “I am asking for your support as a community to help raise funds to assist with the loss of all their belongings (clothes, sofa, beds, kitchen etc.) to help with the financial burden that looms over them through this traumatic time and help piece my friends family back together as a community.”

Cambridgeshire fire and rescue say they were called at 3.08pm on Saturday (15) and crews from Wisbech, March along with crews from West Walton and Outwell (Norfolk) attended the house fire on Bramley Road in Wisbech.

“Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan,” said a spokesperson.

“The crews returned to their stations by 4.50pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”
